Biography
Mr Kumar is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon with over two decades of experience and more than 7,000 operations to his name. He is an NHS Consultant at Russells Hall Hospital and also sees private patients across the West Midlands.

Beyond his clinical work, Mr Kumar holds a research Doctorate from University College London and has published widely in the field of colorectal surgery. He is passionate about training the next generation of surgeons and plays an active role in Royal College of Surgeons education. He is Colorectal and Enhanced Recovery Lead at Russells Hall Hospital and has helped shape robotic surgical services at a regional level, ensuring that more patients across the West Midlands can access the most advanced surgical care available.

Robotic Colorectal Fellowship Bordeaux
Six months at CHU Bordeaux, France with Professor Eric Rullier one of Europe's highest volume colorectal cancer centres. Training in robotic TME, beyond-TME surgery, organ preservation, intersphincteric resection and TEMS. Exposure to organ preservation strategies, trans-anal techniques and beyond-TME surgery, skills which form a core part of his current consultant practice.
RCS Robotic Fellowship Portsmouth
RCS Robotic Fellow at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth with Professor Jim Khan, a leading UK centre for robotic surgery. Investigator on the Mastery trial assessing surgical quality benchmarks using Intuitive Data Recorder technology. These fellowships developed advanced skills in robotic-assisted surgery that Mr Kumar now applies in his consultant practice.
Expert Endoscopist
Mr Kumar is nationally accredited (JAG) for colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy, performing over 400 procedures per year. He is skilled in therapeutic endoscopy including the removal of polyps, reducing the risk of bowel cancer. Patients can be confident they are receiving endoscopy to the highest national standard.
Research & Publications
MD Res, University College London research focused on anal canal function and pelvic floor disorders. 15 peer-reviewed publications including original research, systematic reviews & meta-analyses in international journals. Book chapter in Abdomino-pelvic pain: from definition to best practice. Principal Investigator for ROSSINI II multicentre surgical Randomised Controlled Trial.
International Presentations
Presenter at leading international surgical conferences including ESCP, DDW, UEGW, BASO and the Japanese Society of Gastroenterological Surgery. Oral and poster presentations covering robotic surgery, rectal cancer, pelvic floor disorders and endoscopy spanning over a decade of conference contributions.
Teaching & Training
Mr Kumar is passionate about raising standards in surgery. He trains the next generation of surgeons on Royal College of Surgeons courses and supervises junior doctors in their development.
